What Does a Cat's Body Look Like?

Each cat has a special shape and characteristics. Generally, cats have round faces. Cats have different ears. There are cats with wide ears. There are also cats with small ears.

Cats have two front legs and two back legs. The front legs of cats consist of 5 toes and the back legs consist of 4 toes. Cat fur also varies, from long-haired to short-haired.

Cats have tails that function to maintain their body balance. There are short-tailed cats, long-tailed cats, and cats with no tails. Generally, cats have two types of bodies:

  • Cobby (short and round body, short legs, round head).
  • Svelte (long body, narrow face).

However, there are also semi-cobby cats. This type of cat has a round body with a round head and short legs.

How to Draw Cats?

To draw a cat, you need to know the shapes of cats. Therefore, you can use the explanation above as a clue or guide to draw the shape of a cat.

After you understand the shape of a cat, you need to prepare a pencil and paper. Then, start drawing a cat using these steps!

  • Draw 3 overlapping circles. The three overlapping circles are used as the outline of the cat's body. You need to sketch a small circle for the cat's head. Meanwhile, a big circle under the head functions as the cat's chest.
  • After that, add two small triangles as the cat's ears. Don't forget to draw lines on the right and left sides as the cat's neck.
  • Next, add ovals and curves to the cat's face and body. They are used as the cat's mouth, paws, and tail.
  • Draw two eyes on the cat's head.
  • Add 4 strokes on the cat's cheeks to make whiskers. Add 2 lines to make the cat's eyebrows.
  • Use soft strokes to create natural-looking cat fur.
  • Erase the circles and guidelines to make your cat look realistic.
  • Color the cat.

How to Give Instruction on How to Draw a Cat to Kids?

Follow these easy step-by-step instructions to teach kids how to draw a cat.

  • First, ask them to draw the cat’s head by making a big circle.
  • Ask them to make the cat’s body.
  • Draw the tail.
  • Make two triangular ears.
  • Draw three ovals as the cat’s legs.
  • Draw two circles as the cat’s eyes. Add three lines on the right and left of the cat’s face as the cat’s whiskers.

You should give clear instructions to the kids so that they can easily understand them. It is also a good idea to give examples so that they can follow your instructions easily. Don’t forget to ask them to color the cat. This will be an interesting activity for an art subject.
