Who invent ABCD alphabet? A Semitic People living in or near Egypt developed the original alphabet. They based it on the idea that the Egyptians had developed but used their own specific symbols. It was quickly adopted by its eastern and northern neighbors and relatives, the Canaanites, the Hebrews, and the Phénicians.
